hahaha

This is the only place and country where you hear people say -

I hear ya (u) but....

hahahaha.. Thats seriously the lamest thing ever. I hear you but... is like saying ok.. I thereby prove I am not deaf but does not mean I listen to you or agree with you...

Instead of saying- see I really don't agree with you and you know what, this is what I think; blah blah..- people have come up with all these phrases which supposedly soften the blow..

But really ?

Post lunch tit bit

Songs in which I find the singers quite hilarious (Yes, I will start listing such things when I am bored and don't feel like working!)

1. Hariharan in Kuchi Kuchi from Bombay - An extremely seasoned singer but his initial foray into tamil songs I guess. He sounds really funny pronouncing some tamil words.
2. Adnan Sami in Boom Boom from Boyz - Yes I know he sounds and is adorable in other ways, but you have to agree he sounds really hilarious in this song..
3. Udit Narayan in that Kuluvali something song from Muthu (yes that Rajni flick in tam) - I have heard that for some reason this one's really famous in either japan or china.. Hmmm.. But seriously though, this one singer never ceases to amaze me. The fact that he has sung sooo many south indian songs is mind boggling, still is for that matter. I mean, with all the plethora of good singers available, they still go to him ? Note that I have lot of respect for him as a singer, he made the 80's and early 90's worthwhile.. But still.. Just listen to this song and you will understand why..
4. Chitra in Bhatke panchi from Main prem ki deewani hoon - Yes even her, despite the fact that she has one of the most melodious voice out there. She sounds unbelievably funny in this one..
5. Sadhna Sargam in Vennilave from Minsara Kanavu - Brilliant singer again but I guess can't really blame her, if I had to sing a song in oriya or chinese am sure I would sound equally (if not more) silly! But ARR has this knack of making people sing for him irrespective of the language.
6. Madhushree in Sandai Kozhi from Ayutha ezhuthu - Ok same reason as above I guess. Its a lovely song but I guess I am still a little eeks about her pronunciation and the lyrics of the song (Well, can't really say I get most of the tamil song lyrics for that matter!)
7. Bappi Lahiri and Alisha in Tarzan title track (old movie Tarzan) - This one is too funny man! Plus picturization of people in skimpy lion (loin?) cloth! O god! Thank god the 80's went by fast....
8. Himesh Reshamiya in all his songs - Ok, I guess I am past the stage where I used to think he sounds funny, now I only think that he sounds extremely annoying! Someone should really sock him!

Yippeeee!

Something to blow away Paypal!!! I was waiting for something like this for a loooong time now. :)

Down memory lane..

I don't know why I thought about this today morning, bang in the middle of getting a refill of my daily dose of caffeine! Hmm unless I was subconsciously counting the number of times I have a made a fool of myself, I dunno y :P

So anyways.. This was back in school and I was probably what 13 or 14..It was probably a saturday and some function at school coz I remember we were in civil dresses (yes, for the uninitiated thats the antonym for school uniforms :p, and something that is not done unless its your birthday or some school function day).

So this friend (who's become a celebrity and vot not in tollywood as a playback singer:) and myself are sitting in our usual spot on this so called stage area we used to have in the school playground. The stage is actually misleading, it was this huge area elevated so could be used as a stage but really supposed to be the basketball court! We used to sit there all our free time and gawk and senior boys :)) Yes yes, there was a time i was that silly :p

And our english ma'm passes by with this boy in tow. The boy is this little guy, extremely cute with a round cherub face and glasses. We probably estimated him to be around 8.. (little did we know!)

So anyways, we look at him, smile at the teacher and continue with our gawking excercise.. After a bit, she walks up to us and says - "Hello girls, I would like you to meet my son Sandeep, he's joining the school this year. And Sandeep, these are girls from my class Radhika and Lekha".
Well, he was damn cute and teeny tiny (in our defence) so we actually pulled his cheeks and say "Hi Sandeep" in chorus (you know the way silly girls chorus??!)

Ma'm is a little taken aback and has this bewildered expression on her face and sandeep by then is quite red, a lot like tomato I must say! I guess she didn't really know what to do or say so quite hastily beats a retreat.

We were quite at a loss of words and did not understand one bit of what had just happened. And like young people of that age promptly forgot all about it within the next 10 mins when we saw a good looking prefect walking by ...

Monday morning we are in the class and waiting for the teacher to come in..Well, she does and shez not alone.. She has someone with her and she says "Class, this is Sandeep, he is joining this class from today". !!@@~~??!!

Lekha and I actually ducked! I mean, could not have been faster!! Literally under the desk! We look at each other and horrified, mortified, speechless!

After about 10 secs, we surface and try to pretend we don't exist anymore.. Class goes on as usual.. Our neighbours are wondering what the hell happened. Bell rings and guess who are the ones to run out even faster than even before you can close the book!

I don't think we spoke to Sandeep till about 6 months from the episode (or even dared to look at him in the eye for that matter). We were so so horrified at the whole episode..The very thought we had pulled his cheek and spoke to him like that was such a horrifying thought! Ugghhhhhh!

No wonder Ma'm had that expression, I am sure she must have later taken him aside and told him to stay away from us :p

Ahh.. those were the days....(wistfully...)

Post lunch read for the day

And yes, the mag's come out quite well Sidin!

KANK

Now that I have openly declared my affinity for Karan Johar/Yash Chopra movies, I can freely say that I am really looking forward to KANK (Kabhi Alvida na kehna, you slow people!)

The trailer promises to be different (zara hatke) from the usual candyfloss romance he churns out. But like I said I am a sucker for that as well :p. So seems like this movie also has the usual dose of awesome locales, great costumes, good looking people and a generous dose of songs, dances and masti! I keep telling people that when you have a starcast like that, even a single scene with all of them in one screen is paisa vasool as far as I am concerned :)) (Actually for that matter, any scene with AB baby is good enuf for me :d)

But here's a few things I am willing to bet on:

1. SRK's character is named Rahul or Raj
2. AB baby is either Jai or Rohit
3. Rani's character is Anjali or Rhea and Preity is Naina (or vice versa)
4. Amitabh dies in the movie (or in between.. whatever)
5. SRK hams at every other scene instead of his usual every scene :p (Ok, I but i do like him, I am just being mean!)
6. The Disco song is picturised on Ab baby
7. The Rock n Roll sohniye is a SRK song :)
8. Kajol has a special appearance in the movie
9. The last scene will painfully stretch for at least 25 minutes without any respite.
10 There is usually a suprise appearance by somebody you least expect

and.... I am willing to bet I will come out of the theatre thinking how anybody married to AB baby does not sleep with him (hahahaha, plzz see the trailer if u don't get this :D)

Any takers ??

Repressive

I seem to have a high threshold of tolerance..

An ex BF said to me a few days ago that he does not remember me ever fighting with him and I wonder really ? In fact he says he does not remember me fighting with anybody for that matter! (I really think he's hitting premature Alzeihmer's :p, sorry bittu!)

That is a little too much to take.. I know for sure that I do have a short temper and I tend to scream a lot. But I guess thats discounted when it comes to really fighting. But i do remember a lot of fights and screaming in a previous relationship.. But maybe a lot of that was repressive.. I don't know.

I am not sure how verbally and negatively expressive I am but I always considered myself a straightshooter who does not hesitate to say what I feel. But turns out not true :))

The alarming thing is that off late I have found a lot of instances to indicate the same. A high level of tolerance, a certain disregard for little things that irk (or even bigger things that irk)

I guess at most all I do is sulk and walk around all sullen instead of really getting it outta my system.. Repressive, ahem yes umm maybe :)

A lot of people including my mum would say its a good thing, at least makes me scream less :p

Ok, asked another guy frm past and he said "Well, you do fight but not excessively". I guess thats good news.. But its been quite a few years since I was with him so maybe I have changed hmmppff!

Is tolerance really a virtue ? Or is it just an overrated quality that we all think we should have in order to have peaceful relations ? I think its the latter. Really think about it, can anyone really honestly say "Oh nothing ever fazes me". I don't think so. We are all picky, we all have set ideas of Do's and Don'ts , Have's and Have not's. And when we see or feel something contradictory to what we like/are used to - we do tend to sulk..

How much and how long is subjective tho'...Which also makes me wonder, even if we do fight, its to what purpose ? I remember saying the same thing to somebody not too long ago. I actually said - "I don't want to fight with you, whats the point ??"

Maybe thats a reflection of what I have evolved into.. Someone who doesnt see any point in fighting.. Whoa..back up for a sec.. Is that really what I wanna be ? Its a peaceful way of life I am sure. But thats either really repressed or really cynical ..

I guess in the end it all boils down to whether you really think your saying or not saying anything would really really impact a relationship. I believe that if a relationship or association is strong enough, it should give you that confidence to be yourself and say whatever you may want to, good or bad.
If you find yourself having to tell yourself its not worth saying anything about or bringing up, you may want to re-think.....

I am an Indian

Please share this with anybody who wants to see what India stands for today in the post independent and economically emerging times.

Strings forever

Posted by Picasa

Its been exhilarating to say the least about the Strings concert that happened yesterday! Was one of the lucky ones who landed at 7.15 for a 9.30 show:P
Which means I actually got to go as close as a few inches/foot from the stage where they were doing a last min sound check and practice and watch them in awe!
And got to take pictures with the dudes themselves!!! (People who are in my pix share list, plzz chk out on Flickr).

Its was a treat for both eyes and the ears! They are fabulous to say the least! I just could not stop gushing for about 4 hrs!! Faisal the main guy who sings most of their songs is so amazing I don't know where to begin.
Absolutely down to earth and you would be surprised how extremely poilte and humble he is. I shook hands with him and took a picture and he was the sweetest thing in the world!
Bilal I thought was a little stand offish that way. But I guess being a celebrity somehow you could tend to get that way (Ha but thats not a good enough excuse! Whatever comes with the territory needs to be accepted with grace mister:P )

But all in all such a wonderful evening. They were extremely chilled out as well so instead of doing the routine gig, they belted out a few unplugged version of their songs for us (it was a small public). Mind blowing!!!

See I cant stop gushing!

I had to put up this link!

Sayesha's review of Banaras

This one's so funny, my colleagues really started to wonder if i had lost my mind! Ahem.. did I forget to mention my laughing hysterically before that part??

Song of the day (yes yes, I know its really resembling an audio blog now)

Lag Jaa Gale Ki Phir Yeh Haseen Raat Ho Na Ho
Shaayad Phir Is Janam Mein Mulaaqaat Ho Na Ho
Lag Jaa Gale Se

Humko Mili Hain Aaj Yeh Ghadiyaan Naseeb Se
Jee Bhar Ke Dekh Lijiye Humko Qareeb Se
Phir Aapke Naseeb Mein Yeh Baat Ho Na Ho
Shaayad Phir Is Janam Mein Mulaaqaat Ho Na Ho
Lag Jaa Gale Ki Phir Yeh Haseen Raat Ho Na Ho
Lag Jaa Gale Se

Paas Aaiye Ki Hum Nahin Aayenge Baar Baar
Baahen Gale Mein Daal Ke Hum Ro Len Zaar Zaar
Aankhon Se Phir Yeh Pyaar Ki Barsaat Ho Na Ho
Shaayad Phir Is Janam Mein Mulaaqaat Ho Na Ho
Lag Jaa Gale Ki Phir Yeh Haseen Raat Ho Na Ho
Shaayad Phir Is Janam Mein Mulaaqaat Ho Na Ho
Lag Jaa Gale Se

Lovely song from the movie 'Woh kaun thi'. They just make songs like these anymore..

ps: I promise to write something really soooooon :))) I have a few unfinished stuff in my draft folder :p

Song of the day

I shud really have like a music blog or audio blog (whatever its referred to as now) at the rate at which i blip songs of the day...

Anyways, this one is 'Chal kahin door' from this obscure movie Doosra Aadmi.. Lovely song...
Kishore, Lata and Rafi.. Amazing combo and such a treat to listen to..

I always had this song but recently I found an instrumental version of it.. Am not sure if its part of the soundtrack or recorded seperately. But amazing nonetheless..

A very soulful song which rings of longing and love...

Someone's actually tried to do this!

Impressed really! This one's provided me a reason to smile on a drudgy monday morning so gonna put up a link to it.

Being Cyrus

Finally saw the movie just now.. Am stunned, bowled over and delighted all at once..

I am stunned at the diabolical screenplay and story line.I am bowled over by the absolutely fantastic performances and the dark humour. And I am completely delighted at the notion of Indian cinema finally moving into the foray of dark ,wiry and original story lines.

Its been a sheer pleasure to watch this movie.. I am only sad that I had not so far. It had released when I was travelling and never really got around to watch it. Today very deteminedly forgoing my afternoon siesta decided to give it a shot!

I so so glad to see an Indian movie made in English where every character is abolutely flawless (if I may say so),the spoken english itself is impeccable. And that my dear is something that cannot be said for 99% of the so called English Indian movies that have seen the light of day last few years! It is sheer pleasure to see Saif bounce back the way he has.. All those bollywood stars out there (except dah'lin AB baby;)) should take a lesson or two from him for the kind of english diction he posseses (I guess after all, that UK education did pay off :p) His screen presence is awesome. I cannot believe he is the same scrawny guy who wore crazy clothes and danced to 'ole ole' !

I guess it was a matter of time and maturity for him to experiment with roles like these. He surprised me with Parineeta and Ek Haseena thi and this definitely takes the cake. He is such a dlighteful mixture of somebody sensitive, intelligent and at the same time quite quite scary! The movie takes you through different shades of his personality, a seeminlgly waywardness due to a troubled childhood, sensitivity that helps him gauging the Sethna family to a T, the disarming charm that makes people putty in his hands and of course the diabolic side as well.

I don't even know where to start about Dimple Kapadia. That women never ceases to suprise you, either as an alcoholic in 40's in DCH or a neurotic Mrs. Sethna in Being Cyrus.. She is one hell of an actor! (No wonder my mom likes her so much!) She has maintained herself so perfectly that you almost get swayed by her kiddish flirting on screen. Its a pity that none of the daughters take after her , really.. Looks wise or otherwise.. They are just shadows of what they could have been. The mother is someone to reckon with :) Her performance leaves nothing else to be desired, she plays the role of the obviously flirtish and neurotic parsi wife to the hilt! I really doubt if she is wearing any make up thru the movie but still manages to look absolutely sexy and attractive even with unkempt hair! awesome!

Naseruddin Shah, that man is a delight to watch even if he is on the screen for just 2 mins. His role I would have thought, in this movie, was a little sketchy and minor compared to other more powerful characters. But like I said, even in those 2-3mins that he's there, he is so perfect. There is really no role that this guy cannot play, I am convinced.. (tho he has played a parsi before in Pestonji). But the panorama of roles he has played in both movies and on stage is mind boggling. Ah, I hope he continues to shine for years to come..

Boman irani I thought was a little underused in this movie, he is another chap capable of greater things :) But nonetheless pleasure to see him playing the nasty and creepy Farokh.

Simone singh is a surprise package.. I guess she is underrated really, we haven't seen much of her except in 2 min roles in K2G and Kal ho na ho.. She looks so good and scrubbed.

All in all a great movie to watch on a lazy saturday and three cheers for the young and spunky director(Homi something..) to come up with this!!
