Tech and more tech

that given my current non working situation is quickly making me feel like an isolated vegetable!

Thanks to a so called daily dose of whats happening around me, at least I get to find out what and how others are contributing to the society!

So keeping with that trend, here's what I took a look at today and it really makes me feel more an more outdated :))

www.mapmyindia.com

Its a commendable effort towards creating a map feature similiar to google maps or yahoo maps.
I tried the beta site and made a direction search from my home in bangalore to MG road (which is sort of the city center). It did provide exact directions.

A look at that seemed too good to be true, infact too visionary for words ! I have been told that there are similiar web sites trying to do the same thing.

You can find a more comprehensive review for mapmyindia here

Another amazing find along the same lines was this. Here i tried cinema theatres near my home in bangalore and it gave me all the theatres sorted by (i think) proximity. The site is not your answer to everything under the sun kinda thing (And I didn't quite find quite a few other things) but i think its a first and an excellent step in the right direction. It has an auto fill (just like the google search toolbar) which fills out most of the locations starting with what you type in. The categories they offer are basic but I am guessing they will expand soon.

Apart from the generic features, there are also lotsa cool features such as a floating help window, ratings for every establishment etc.

Excellent stuff out there, pity there is only so much that you get to hear about...
