Song of the day

I shud really have like a music blog or audio blog (whatever its referred to as now) at the rate at which i blip songs of the day...

Anyways, this one is 'Chal kahin door' from this obscure movie Doosra Aadmi.. Lovely song...
Kishore, Lata and Rafi.. Amazing combo and such a treat to listen to..

I always had this song but recently I found an instrumental version of it.. Am not sure if its part of the soundtrack or recorded seperately. But amazing nonetheless..

A very soulful song which rings of longing and love...

Someone's actually tried to do this!

Impressed really! This one's provided me a reason to smile on a drudgy monday morning so gonna put up a link to it.

Being Cyrus

Finally saw the movie just now.. Am stunned, bowled over and delighted all at once..

I am stunned at the diabolical screenplay and story line.I am bowled over by the absolutely fantastic performances and the dark humour. And I am completely delighted at the notion of Indian cinema finally moving into the foray of dark ,wiry and original story lines.

Its been a sheer pleasure to watch this movie.. I am only sad that I had not so far. It had released when I was travelling and never really got around to watch it. Today very deteminedly forgoing my afternoon siesta decided to give it a shot!

I so so glad to see an Indian movie made in English where every character is abolutely flawless (if I may say so),the spoken english itself is impeccable. And that my dear is something that cannot be said for 99% of the so called English Indian movies that have seen the light of day last few years! It is sheer pleasure to see Saif bounce back the way he has.. All those bollywood stars out there (except dah'lin AB baby;)) should take a lesson or two from him for the kind of english diction he posseses (I guess after all, that UK education did pay off :p) His screen presence is awesome. I cannot believe he is the same scrawny guy who wore crazy clothes and danced to 'ole ole' !

I guess it was a matter of time and maturity for him to experiment with roles like these. He surprised me with Parineeta and Ek Haseena thi and this definitely takes the cake. He is such a dlighteful mixture of somebody sensitive, intelligent and at the same time quite quite scary! The movie takes you through different shades of his personality, a seeminlgly waywardness due to a troubled childhood, sensitivity that helps him gauging the Sethna family to a T, the disarming charm that makes people putty in his hands and of course the diabolic side as well.

I don't even know where to start about Dimple Kapadia. That women never ceases to suprise you, either as an alcoholic in 40's in DCH or a neurotic Mrs. Sethna in Being Cyrus.. She is one hell of an actor! (No wonder my mom likes her so much!) She has maintained herself so perfectly that you almost get swayed by her kiddish flirting on screen. Its a pity that none of the daughters take after her , really.. Looks wise or otherwise.. They are just shadows of what they could have been. The mother is someone to reckon with :) Her performance leaves nothing else to be desired, she plays the role of the obviously flirtish and neurotic parsi wife to the hilt! I really doubt if she is wearing any make up thru the movie but still manages to look absolutely sexy and attractive even with unkempt hair! awesome!

Naseruddin Shah, that man is a delight to watch even if he is on the screen for just 2 mins. His role I would have thought, in this movie, was a little sketchy and minor compared to other more powerful characters. But like I said, even in those 2-3mins that he's there, he is so perfect. There is really no role that this guy cannot play, I am convinced.. (tho he has played a parsi before in Pestonji). But the panorama of roles he has played in both movies and on stage is mind boggling. Ah, I hope he continues to shine for years to come..

Boman irani I thought was a little underused in this movie, he is another chap capable of greater things :) But nonetheless pleasure to see him playing the nasty and creepy Farokh.

Simone singh is a surprise package.. I guess she is underrated really, we haven't seen much of her except in 2 min roles in K2G and Kal ho na ho.. She looks so good and scrubbed.

All in all a great movie to watch on a lazy saturday and three cheers for the young and spunky director(Homi something..) to come up with this!!

Cute to look at and has a good strong voice :))) Good package all in all

Song rocks!

Good bye Charmed

Ahh! T'is with a heavy heart I said good bye to one of my favourite TV series 'Charmed' http://thewb.warnerbros.com/web/show.jsp?id=CH

Its been running since last 8 years now, amazing when you consider its the only women dominating show in the recent times which has been playing for so long!

I have been following this for about last 4 years now (We didn't get to see this on Star till about 4 years ago). And I have been hooked from day 1.
I know I know, i have been a butt of many a jokes about my addiction to this series (especially when they started doing this 2 hrs back to back reruns since last year or so :p ).

It been an amazing journey with the halliwell sisters, they kick butt man! And its so witty and endearing that you cannot cast it away as a plain action or drama series..

I am too depressed to even continue writing, can't get over the fact that they are shutting this amazing show down :( Boo hooo !

Blip again...

How ?? How did this happen ?

From the "I am so alone and bored in Houston", I have gone to "I am sooo bloody booked over the weekend" gal !
How ??

Till about 2-3 weeks ago.. I had all the time in the world.. Right now, I am double booked for the weekends.. My social calender is as booked as it can possibly be and its shocking!

Met a couple of people, made friends.. friends introduced me to a couple of their other friends and voila ! I am no longer alone and bored :)

Nice as it may sound, kinda irks me, believe it or not .. I really like my 'alone' time..And now I am missing it :(

Its almost like I have to beg people to be left alone on weekends to relax and kick baq!

Bride and Prejudice and other things...

Stereotype.. Thats what we do .. always and on a daily basis.

Pride and Prejedice is a book I have read even when i was in school and again many a times when I was growing up.. Jane Austen is fascinating.. The sensitivity she brings in to her books from a very feministic point of view is quite appealing.

Theres been a hollywood version of this with keira knightley recently and I had seen trailers of which. Well. i did not quite think she suits the character of Lizzie (thats me.. I just think she looks to pixie-ish and not the matured well read sort i woudl have imagined Elizabeth to be)

But thats digressing.. There is an Indian version of the same story of the Bennet sisters, "Bride and Prejudice".

I had for some reason imagined this to be silly and stereotyped as most Indo-western (for the lack of a better word) movies are!

I had completely warded this away and did not think it was worth it so never ventured to see it..
So, today saw this in the foreign movies aisle at my local DVD store and said to myself- 'What the heck' and picked it up..
Lazy sundays and all that, kinda inspires you to just chill and watch movies which do not/may not satisfy any creative/entertainment needs but are completely for the sake of self dare or even ticking things off your ah maybe I will do this sometime in my life list..

So, nice spicy thai food (aha, made by yours truly:p) and some nice wine and I am all set to watch this thingy..

Imagine my pleasant suprise when it turns out to be a good movie.. I mean I was not bored or unhappy for most parts of it :)) And it made me wonder why have people disregarded it so much..

I think the first reason that jumps to my face is the fact that most of the people who may have watched this movie have never ever read the book or even heard of it.. They probably just went to see this movie as the next indo-western flick with aishwarya rai in it! So, fellas around.. This is a very very good adaptation of an extremely good book! So unless you have read the book, you will never see what a good adaptation is it.. And of course if you didn;t like the book, ten to one, you will never appreciate the movie, so why even talk abt it! It is a subject that will probably appeal to only a certain segment of public which is intelligent and sensitive enough to realize what Pride and Pejudice (PAP from here on) is about. PAP is not about a masala flick, it is not just about boy meets girl and the rest of the masala flick.. Its a very intelligently weaved story about vanity, pride (false pride even) and love in the middle of a traditional tightly coupled familiy background.
Which is also why its is so apt to be translated to a bollywood movie because we can relate to all that.. and more of course...The bond between the bennet sisters, the antics of the mother, the arrogance of Will Darcy, the chemistry between lizzie and darcy is sheer pleasure to read about.. The actual chemistry shown in the movie is probably colder than I would like to have seen (But i think I would rather blame the bollywood movie format for that) but its is definitely a very good adaptation..

The antics of the mother especially is worth watching this movie for ;) It brings a certain smile on your face which only an indian child can imagine ..

The other reason which I think not many have liked this movie is the fact that lizzie is played by Aishwarya Rai.. Well, when I say that does not mean, people don't like the fact that she'z playing the role but the simple fact that she is in it.. I wonder why so many people (including myself at times) are so so critical of her.. I chose to let go of that prejudice and declare that she is not bad at all in this movie ( if you notice I am still conservative about my praises ;)). Anyways, the general opinion is that she comes thru as someone extremely cold and frigid (uh, sorry Aish).. I think in a few movies she does. (a little cold that is :p) But again that is because of so many prejudices we carry in our heads..

The average indian no matter what you say likes the underdog.. We would rather see the underdog win (even if he/she has no justifiable skills) just because well.. we relate to the underdog, at least most do.. So, its a positive and feel good thing to root for the underdog.. Its also kinda partially the same reason why people like Rani mukherjee so much... ( I mean, apart from the fact that she is a brilliant actress). She personifies the girl next door, the girl we all see ourselves as or see people around us as.. So, it makes it easier for us to relate and empathize with her..
But with Aish, its a completely different story. As much as I think she is overrated and cold, I have to say a lot of that backlash come from the fact that we all think and recognize the fact that she is too good to be true.. Who can look as pretty as a picture like she does ?? I mean really ! We have seen her in Western clothes (in some movies and on the ramp) and she looks ravishing, we have seen her in indian clothes (devdas and Hum dil de...) and she looks too good. We have seen her understated in Raincoat and we have seen her giggling mindlessly on Oprah.. But can we refute the fact that she looks simply glorious in all those appearances ? No.. we cannot and we also cannot stand that fact that we cannot..

So, we basically see someone who looks ravishing.. has been doing movies with some great movie makers, has some good acting capers to her credit (she was good in Raincoat and this movie) and so we ask ourselves - Is she too good to true ? Hmm Maybe she is.. Anyways I dont care...
ha.. talk about prejudices :)

Anyways, I think she has done a good job in this movie and does more justice to the character of Lizzie than Keira does.. (Uh sorry Keira, I am waiting for Pirates of the Caribbean btw)

T'is is a good movie. for a lazy afternoon, plz do not diregard it for mundane reasons.. Its got a good an catchy soundtrack and the fact that every scene is so indianized that there is nothing that you will not be able to relate to, makes it a pleasure to watch :)

To Bride and Prejudice...

I dwell too much in the past..

I have been told this before but didn't think it was true.. I dwell too much in the past.. Its like the past doesn't leave me , theres always this shadow of it no matter what i do, where I go..

I think I keep telling myself that its ok to hold on to things from past because that really makes you the person you are today. I honestly do believe that, I think a lot of things that define me today is because of my yesterday. Not that I am even saying it like a good thing but its is true.

To be honest, I think i pretend to let nothing faze me and to haved moved on without a second thought. But as many will you, ok at least one person will (Kish, u there?), that its complete BS.

The only way I move on is with all my baggage intact. Thats a fact.. Thats the only thing that will explain why I am so hung up on things, incidents and people who have no relevance to me anymore. And I mean, even from like 7-10 years ago not just recent past..

This self realization is creeping me out since morning.. I really live in self denial.. Best way to deal with issues I know, but i guess this coming from this significant person from my past, really hit me hard.
